The Bethel Community Players will present their first performance for 2008, "The Legend of Lefty," at the Bethel Inn Resort Conference Center this September 10th and 12th.

The Wednesday, September 10th matinee (4PM) and the Friday, September 12th, full dinner theater performance, is the debut of this Bethel,Maine theater group. Made up of actors and actresses of all ages, this amatuer troupe has ambitions of performing throughout the year in a variety of Bethel Performing Arts Project productions.

"The Legend of Lefty" is a two play comedy directed by Lynn Arizzi. A short one act play, "The Cactus Juice Saloon," opens the evening followed by "Lefty on Trial."

Bethel theater goers who have attended The Senior Players productions (participants of the Western Maine Seniors College acting class) are already familiar with "The Cactus Juice Saloon." The action in this short play takes place in the namesake saloon run by Miss Lacey (Rosabelle Tift). The cowboy "Lefty" (Ross Timberlake) arrives to the town of Dusty Gulch and takes an immediate liking to the flirtatious showgirl, Susannah (Karen Paul). "Lefty's" future looks promising as he and Susannah kick up their heels, that is, until Sheriff Stoutheart (Joe Arizzi) enters and Lefty is ultimately paraded off to jail.

"Lefty on Trial," written by Ross Timberlake, is the "Unautorized Sequel" to "Cactus Juice." This is a western, courtroom comdey for the ages! Coming to Lefty's defense are his Mom (Lorrie Hoeh), his lawyer, Snagglebottom (Sharon Lyons), his partner "Righty" (Tom Coolidge), and Righty's lady friend Miss Carriage (Elaine Hutchins). On the other side of the court, or rather, the saloon, are the Sheriff, the Prosecutor (Liz Forkus), Miss Lacey and Samantha Lucchesse (Rosabelle Tift playing the dual roles), and the Deputy (Amy Farrington). A three person and one seeing-eye dog jury played by Lynn Mason and her canine companion, , Dylan Coolidge, and Carol Campbell render Lefty's fate along with the audience. Audience members will also be drawn to the jury box as witnesses so there is no telling (for sure) what they'll say! Making sure justice is done right, is the Judge (Roberta Taylor) and her assisting Comboy Mimes (Carole Timberlake and Karen Paul).
